A GREAT natural deodorant

Since before I was in chiropractic college, I have been in search of a good natural deodorant. I've tried many, many brands from the local health food stores. None of them worked for me.

My search is over! I learned about this from Lani Simpson, D.C., a fellow chiropractor whom I took some seminars from. (You can also check her out at lanisimpson.com ). I have been using it exclusively for about a month now. It's great. I have switched my teenage daughter over to it and my husband is interested as well.

It is simply BAKING SODA!

This is how you do it:

1) wet your finger with water
2) smear the water in your armpit (axilla, to be technical)
3) dip the same, moist finger into baking soda
4) smear the baking soda onto the wet armpit

Dr. Lani also says that if you have an odor problem for the first few days while your body is adjusting, swipe some rubbing alcohol under your arms before the baking soda. (Don't shave your underarms for the first few days of doing this) I only had to do this for the first day. Now, I only use the baking soda.

A couple of notes: you will still perspire and I experienced a tingling sensation throughout the day during spurts of perspiring. Most of us have suppressed perspiration for so long, we forgot what it feels like. Also, I have not used it during the summer yet, even thought we have had some days in the 90s and I did fine. I carry a little bit of the baking soda in my purse in case I need to freshen up during the day, but have not used it yet. I figure that even if I need back-up during the summer months, there will still be several months of not adding more toxins to my system that are going to mess with my liver, immune system, hormones, etc., etc.

Regarding c-section babies' health

If you had a c-section, your baby's immune system might not have gotten off to the best start. As babies pass through the vaginal canal, they swallow naturally occuring, healthy bacteria that start to set up the immune system inside the intestines.

To help make that up, supplement your baby's feeding with Bifidobacterium Lactis (formerly know as Bifidiobacterium Infantis). Sprinkle about a 1/16 tsp. on your moistened nipple twice a day so baby gets it when nursing. If you are bottle feeding, put it directly into the formula mixture.

I like Metagenics brand because of its known purity and proven effectiveness. Also, it is the only brand that I know whose potency is guaranteed through the EXPIRATION DATE, not just the MANUFACTURE DATE. That's an important distinction. Also, it is shipped to me refridgerated, an added plus.

Healthy babies are happy babies!

How to Prevent the Flu!

A lot of you may have already seen this, but it bears repeating. It is sound advice. Many of you know that I have been recommending the use of a Neti pot for over 10 years now. It is a great wellness tool.

There is a whole list of other supplements that I would add as well including:
Wellness Formula
Echinacea
Oregano Oil
Probiotics
Total Green Protein Powder or AlkaGreen
Garlic
and others...

Also, since the nerve system controls the immune system, and chiropractic balances the nerve system, make sure you are checked for spinal misalignments. Chiropractic spinal adjustments help keep your body's resistance as high as possible!

Prevent Swine Flu - Good Advice
Dr. Vinay Goyal is an MBBS,DRM,DNB (Intensivist and Thyroid specialist) having clinical experience of over 20 years. He has worked in institutions like Hinduja Hospital , Bombay Hospital , Saifee Hospital , Tata Memorial etc. Presently, he is heading our Nuclear Medicine Department and Thyroid clinic at Riddhivinayak Cardiac and Critical Centre, Malad (W).
The following message given by him, I feel makes a lot of sense and is important for all to know
The only portals of entry are the nostrils and mouth/throat. In a global epidemic of this nature, it's almost impossible to avoid coming into contact with H1N1 in spite of all precautions. Contact with H1N1 is not so much of a problem as proliferation is.
While you are still healthy and not showing any symptoms of H1N1 infection, in order to prevent proliferation, aggravation of symptoms and development of secondary infections, some very simple steps, not fully highlighted in most official communications, can be practiced (instead of focusing on how to stock N95 or Tamiflu):
1. Frequent hand-washing (well highlighted in all official communications).
2. "Hands-off-the-face" approach. Resist all temptations to touch any part of face (unless you want to eat, bathe or slap).

3. *Gargle twice a day with warm salt water (use Listerine if you don't trust salt). *H1N1 takes 2-3 days after initial infection in the throat/ nasal cavity to proliferate and show characteristic symptoms. Simple gargling prevents proliferation. In a way, gargling with salt water has the same effect on a healthy individual that Tamiflu has on an infected one. Don't underestimate this simple, inexpensive and powerful preventative method.

4. Similar to 3 above, *clean your nostrils at least once every day with warm salt water . *Not everybody may be good at Jala Neti or Sutra Neti (very good Yoga asanas to clean nasal cavities), but *blowing the nose hard once a day and swabbing both nostrils with cotton buds dipped in warm salt water is very effective in bringing down viral population.*

Neti pots and sinus rinse kits are available at the drug store and relatively inexpensive….under $15.

5. *Boost your natural immunity with foods that are rich in Vitamin C (Amla and other citrus fruits). *If you have to supplement with Vitamin C tablets, make sure that it also has Zinc to boost absorption.

6. *Drink as much of warm liquids (tea, coffee, etc) as you can. *Drinking warm liquids has the same effect as gargling, but in the reverse direction. They wash off proliferating viruses from the throat into the stomach where they cannot survive, proliferate or do any harm.

Tips on saving calories

Here are some easy ways to shave off calories from your daily intake without compromising taste. If you decrease your caloric intake by just 100 per day, that's a potential 10 pounds of fat lost in a year!

  1. Substitute apple sauce for oil in baking and pancake recipes
  2. Use organic, low sodium chicken broth for sauteing veggies
  3. Don't add cheese to your sandwiches
  4. Always measure your salad dressing (no more than 2 TBSP) and toss extra well to get every piece coated
  5. Eat hummus or tofu based dips instead of sour cream or cheesy dips
Enjoy a more slender you!
